Darkness, I know you are here,
You live in me, and in this room,
You are deadlier than the strongest poisons,
You live in the commoners and the nobility,

Neither wind, nor rain,
Your moan has filled the valley,
To the top of the mountain, and to the very bottom,
You are there, in the stars and in the night,
In the unfinished building and in the old stove,

Silence, darkness, time,
You have a dark, predatory hue,
You are an eternal mystery and a shadow,
Morning fog, night blizzard,
You are like ash and a burnt wick,
