Development of a Telegram bot on n8n with Airtable integration as a CMS
Goal:
Create a comprehensive, bilingual (English/Chinese) Telegram bot with a simple "on-demand" content publishing system for a non-technical client, ensuring maximum reliability and future scalability.
My Contribution:
The project started with a prototype on a popular chatbot builder, but we immediately encountered a critical bug called the "phantom message." The platform's API returned a success status, but the end user never received the message in Telegram.
My contribution involved not just creating but diagnosing and solving this fundamental problem:
Deep Diagnostics: Using API tools like Postman, I systematically tested endpoints and proved that the issue was an insurmountable limitation of the third-party platform related to its message handling policy.
Strategic Pivot: Based on the diagnostics, I decided to abandon the unreliable stack and developed a perfect, native architecture.
Full-Stack Development on n8n: I built a single workflow from scratch in n8n, which serves as the "brain" of the entire bot. This system is directly integrated with the Telegram API and uses Airtable as a headless CMS, managed from one point:
- Fully interactive, bilingual client interface (menus, FAQ, contacts, etc.).
- A separate, secure admin panel for content publishing via a simple command in Telegram.
Result:
Successfully developed a solution bypassing the platform's key limitation, resulting in a 100% reliable system. The final architecture eliminates unreliable intermediaries, provides full transparency through direct integration with the Telegram API, and offers a seamless experience for both end users and administrators. The solution is highly scalable and cost-effective, built on a self-hosted n8n instance, providing the client with long-term value and full control over their automation infrastructure.
