Drohobych saltworks: salt of the earth
A 50-meter mine, natural brines, and wood-fired furnaces. Hard to believe, but not much has changed at the saltworks in Drohobych since 1250. The method of extracting "white gold" from Drohobych salt is proposed to be added to the UNESCO Intangible Heritage list. It was for salt that the people of Drohobych traded with a neighboring village for the current architectural gem - the Church of St. George. The importance of salt production for the city is also evidenced by the 9 salt furnaces on the coat of arms.
