"Tapestry"
Author: Anton Stadnikov (SAW ART)
Technique: oil painting
Size: 50×60 cm
Materials: canvas, oil
Year of creation: 2025
The work is an author's interpretation of the famous painting by Viktor Borisov-Musatov "Tapestry" (1900). This is the artist's first experience in the symbolism style of the early 20th century.
The original by Borisov-Musatov was executed with tempera paints, which the artist rubbed into the canvas, creating a characteristic matte texture. In my work, modern materials have been used — oil paints that allow for soft transitions, depth of color, and natural light. However, in some areas, I experimented by rubbing the paint with a palette knife to partially approach the texture of old tempera painting.
The painting conveys tranquility, harmony, and the fragility of feminine images in the garden of an ancient estate. Smooth color transitions and a warm palette create a sense of "living fabric," reminiscent of an ancient tapestry.
This is the largest and most complex work by the author, executed with a deep understanding of color theory, composition, and the spirit of the era.
