Print from the series "Evolution." Coelacanth is the famous "living fossil" that was believed to have gone extinct about 65 million years ago. On December 22, 1938, a trawler caught an unknown fish in the Indian Ocean near the mouth of the Chalumna River (South Africa). The uniqueness of the catch was noticed by museum employee Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer.
