Character analysis of Lennox from Macbeth. It is a task for my univeristy iterature class.
Compose an essay of 3-4 pages (MLA formatting) wherein you analyze the significance of this character to the overall text
focus on the manner in which your character’s actions, motivations, and mannerisms give meaning to the text. Your essay should not focus on the ways you plan to embody this character nor your conjectures about their personalities (they are literary elements, after all, and not real people).
In addition, below are some questions you might consider when framing your analysis: (note, you should NOT answer all of these questions):
- Describe two to three key actions of the character, or how the character responds to events. What do the actions reveal about the character? Do the character’s actions fit together, or do they contradict each other?
- Analyze the character’s psychological background. Why does the character act in the way he/she does?
- In what ways do a character’s motivations/desire conflict with his/her ethical responsibilities. What is the moral dilemma the character experiences and how he/she wrestles with this dilemma beyond what is obvious in the plot. What literary elements draw out this conflict?
- How does a character perform his/her/their gender identity? In what ways does this expression conform with or deny social norms?
