PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

An extraordinary musical-visual, acoustic-electronic jazz project "Folk Bilicya in the Realm of Jazz" by young Ukrainian composer Vlad Solodovnikov and conductor Serhiy Likhomanenko. Unconventional instrumentation and the use of eclectic forms aim to create an innovative cultural product. The project clearly demonstrates a high cultural level, an ancient original history of music from the period of Kievan Rus and modern trends using contemporary audio-visual forms (instrumental performance and VJing). The main product of the project is a recorded musical work (with 20 - 22 compositions) lasting from 60 to 70 minutes, and sheet music. Additional products: restored authentic musical instruments – 5 instruments, a video sequence of VJing using paintings by Ukrainian artists (60 – 70 minutes), (including works by M. Primachenko), a base of created loops and samples (about 100) for reproducing the work using electronic midi controllers.

The project plans to use modern animated video installations of paintings by Ukrainian artists: folk artist, representative of "naive art"; laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine named after T. G. Shevchenko. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1970, folk artist of Ukraine – Maria Prymachenko, masters of Petrykivka painting, folk artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Slepchenko, orientalist, expressionist Vyacheslav Breysha, honored artist of Ukraine Viktor Shpakovsky, and others.

A collective performance is planned at the final stage in preparation for the public premiere of the Work in October 2020 in the FORMAT OF ONLINE BROADCASTING. The location has been preliminarily agreed upon, which is fully adapted for the performance of the work (taking into account the specifics of the video sequence) in a studio format in the LARGE CONCERT STUDIO OF THE UKRAINIAN RADIO RECORDING HOUSE.

In 2020, the composer and conductor propose a new 60-75 minute concert program and studio recording of the work using an orchestra of authentic Ukrainian instruments, string orchestra, piano, vocals, and electronic samples. Cymbals, hurdy-gurdy, bullhorn, kobza, etc. DJ setup, drum kit, synthesizers. These instruments have not been used in such an ensemble before. The Eclectic Sound Orchestra is invited to participate in the project as the main ensemble. The philosophy of eclecticism laid at the foundation of the ensemble has allowed achieving a fundamentally new sound and modern requirements for music. The Eclectic Sound Orchestra (ESO) is qualitatively different from any other "traditional" orchestras. The diverse genre orientation of the music, the use of digital technologies, and authentic instruments have made the Eclectic Sound Orchestra an innovative and experimental orchestra. The Eclectic Sound Orchestra team uses the principle of poly-genre musical synthesis involving electronic samples, beats, and synthesized pedals. All this allows revealing new facets of both classical and contemporary music.
