I remember myself as a little girl. My biggest problem was breaking one of many toys. Over time, I understood that this was just the beginning of lessons about loss in the human world. I encountered death beside me as a child, but I only began to comprehend it when it took you away from me. I understood when it left me your last breath. Your blood on my hands. Helplessness. There is nothing harder than losing those we love. Those we always have beside us, we may often pass by, argue, but we don’t think they could disappear. We can’t even imagine it. Time, however, makes no exceptions. We live to love, because when we lose, we regret that we did not love. When we leave, it is very possible that someone will take our place, but we can be remembered as those who loved. They rejoiced in the happiness of others. They smiled at the rays of sunshine. They felt good even in silence. They did not force themselves into the rat race. They followed their own pace. Remembered for being just themselves.

Today is the perfect moment -2nd of January- to write about my wonderful Czesia. A common day of the new year when none of my closest people have an important holiday, event.. Czesia is the only fish in my aquarium willing not to escape from the touch of a human hand; at times I felt like I had my own dragon or "underwater agama." The biggest charming fish monster that I loved like a child. She was a workaholic, zooming around the aquarium glass so that no algae would remain, just like people run through life to bury their worries and never stand still, not afraid to swim forward, taking care of their place in the world. So many life metaphors one can draw from observing a little fish. Every time for 8 years on a weaker day, I looked at her and thought to myself, "Clean your aquarium like Czesia"... I write this with the same heaviness as when I took her out of the aquarium after her passing. It is an honor to say goodbye to such creatures in one's short human life. If people appreciated what they have more, just like the fish appreciates that piece of glass, the world might be richer than it seems. In the new year, Czesia arranges her underwater world a little higher.
