The timeline is as follows:

On August 1, another developer got in touch with me (judging by the dialogue - quite competent, but in practice - I don't know, as it didn't come to action).

We discussed what we are doing and how we are doing it (the deadline was 3 days, but I said that if it takes a little longer - it's not a big deal).

On the 2nd and 3rd, there was still communication (responses were along the lines of "okay"),
on the 5th, they replied that they were a bit unwell, but today they would finish everything and send the results of the work on the script.
Then there were 3 days without a response, after which I reached out again and they promised to complete everything by tomorrow (the 9th).
On the 9th, they promised to get back to me in the evening, and since then it has been quiet again.

So overall, I can say the following: most likely the guys understand the code and know how to work, but they don't have a project manager or someone to maintain communication with the client, which leads to a negative experience, and the quality of communication for the client is low.
