    1. Training for dental hygienists - who can complete it?

    A dental hygienist is a profession classified as part of the so-called qualified mid-level dental personnel. This profession has a treatment profile, a preventive-educational profile, and an instructional-administrative profile. The work of a dental hygienist allows a person who has received this title to collaborate with a doctor, namely a dentist (stomatologist). The scope of this collaboration includes the implementation of procedures by the dentist, referred to as preventive-therapeutic.

    The training (course) intended for dental hygienists can be completed by high school graduates. Individuals without a high school diploma can also participate. Training for hygienists lasts for a period of two years. It concludes with an exam designed to confirm professional qualifications. The exam is conducted by the District Examination Board.

    Regarding the class system, there are two options for attending: daytime and evening - depending on the place of study. Importantly, during the training, professional internships are essential, in which training participants must take part.

    2. Training for dental hygienists - what can be learned?

    During the training for dental hygienists, classes are held in the following subjects: dental propedeutics, health and life-threatening conditions, social and personal communication, foreign language in dentistry, business activity in health care, sign language, education and health promotion in dental prevention, preventive and therapeutic activities of the dental hygienist, principles and techniques of work in a dental office. In terms of practical classes, during the training, participants have the opportunity to learn primarily hygiene-preventive procedures with the support of a dentist. These include, for example, tooth varnishing, oral cavity examination, removal of dental deposits, tooth varnishing, as well as preventive and cosmetic dental procedures.

    Additionally, during their studies, future dental hygienists can learn how to independently conduct dental health education and how to promote oral health. Training participants can also learn to independently carry out promotional and educational work for parents and guardians of school and preschool children. An important aspect is also acquiring skills in oral hygiene instruction.

    As is known, for many people, the earnings of a dental hygienist are also significant. Currently, the median monthly salary in this profession is 4310 PLN gross, which corresponds to 3800 PLN net (2022). However, the earnings of half of the hygienists range from 3730 PLN to 5210 PLN gross.
