Tim Schmutzler

Hi, I’m Tim  – a composer, sound designer, and theatre director based in Leipzig, Germany.

I create music and sound worlds that tell stories — from subtle, atmospheric textures to emotionally charged scores. My background in theatre and audio storytelling shapes the way I think about music: it’s never just a backdrop, but an active part of the narrative.

I’ve composed for theatre productions, documentary features, and podcasts (including work for MDR Wissen and detektor.fm), and recently started focusing more on film composition. I love working with field recordings, organic sounds, and ambient textures to build atmosphere and emotional depth.

While my setup allows me to work remotely and deliver full productions from my studio, I also enjoy collaborating closely with directors and editors to find the right musical tone for each story.
