Javascript and TypescriptMain task: analysis of possible ways to reduce internet traffic for a large video advertising service.
Through testing and analysis, it was discovered that the browsers of most service users support the modern video codec AV1 (except Edge, IE, and a few others).
It is important for the service to be able to show videos to the maximum number of users.
The final solution was to write code in TypeScript, which determines based on several criteria whether AV1 is supported. And if it is supported, it loads the version of the video that weighs less. If the codec is not supported, the browser lied about supporting the codec or an error occurred - the old version of the video (mp4) is loaded.

Due to the fact that some videos were compressed by 20%, some by 50%, etc. - on a sample of 20 random files, the average compression ratio of files was determined to be 37%.
The monthly savings on CDN amounted to $10,000.
