Required skills:
- Configuration and optimization of web server operation (apache/nginx). Load balancing between web servers.
- Configuration and optimization of incoming mail server operation (IMAP). Ensuring security, disabling all unnecessary services, closing unnecessary ports, etc.
- Working with HTTP requests: hidden redirection of HTTP requests via curl, asynchronous request processing (execution queues), session management, etc.
Briefly about the project:
I have an incoming mail server. It automatically forwards emails from hundreds of other email accounts.
I also have a web server (on another PC). It hosts a website (WordPress), and among other things, there is a php script that allows receiving emails from the mail server via HTTP requests (using the "php-imap" library).
All of this was done by me on the principle of "as I know," and initially, it worked great, but gradually, day by day, the performance of the mail server began to deteriorate, even though the hardware is powerful and should handle it.
I will explain in more detail verbally, as the project is large, there is quite a lot of work, and it is necessary for you to have a clear understanding of what needs to be done. Perhaps you can provide your professional recommendations, for which I would also gladly pay.
What needs to be done in the first stage:
1) Move the web server to the same PC as the mail server, or at least swap their places (advise how to do it better).
2) Configure the incoming mail server to reliably and quickly process a large number of requests. Implement the ability to connect to the mail server only from the IP address of the web server (so that interaction with the mail server can only be done through the php scripts of my web server, and all connection attempts from outside are automatically blocked).
3) Perhaps you can also help optimize and improve the performance of the web server (speed, stability, stress resistance, resource consumption, etc.).
In general, everything needs to be done correctly, competently, as it should be.
