Technical task: Interlinking products through buttons in CMS

1. Goal

Ensure the correct operation of buttons on the website created on Wix (CMS), so that when clicking on the button of the product card, the user is redirected to the unique external link specified in the CMS.

2. Current behavior

In the CMS, each product has a field with a unique additional link (URL).

When the site is published, the buttons do not perform a redirect - the transition does not occur.

Re-publishing does not solve the problem.

3. Required behavior

When clicking on the button on the product card:

The site should take the value from the CMS field (for example, external_url) and redirect the user to this address.

The redirection should occur without delays and work correctly in all browsers.

For the mobile version:

Check and ensure the correct display of the button.

Make sure that clicking the button on mobile devices also goes to the link.

4. Programmer's tasks

Check the structure of the CMS connection to the button elements.

Set up the connection between the button and the link field:

If the external_url field is filled, the click leads to this address.

If the field is empty - either the button is hidden, or it leads to the standard product page (clarify the logic).

Check the operation of all types of devices (desktop, mobile, tablet).

Test in major browsers Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge.

Test after re-publishing to ensure that the settings are not disrupted.

5. Possible causes of error (for checking)

The button is not linked to the CMS field.

The field in the CMS is incorrect (for example, text instead of URL).

Errors in the onClick handler.

Issues with caching/publishing.

6. Test scenarios

Click on the button with a filled external_url → the specified site opens.

Click on the button with an empty external_url → a fallback action is performed (for example, transition to an internal page).

Check all buttons on different products.

Check on mobile devices (iOS, Android).

7. Result

All buttons work according to the logic described above.

Transitions are correct and do not get disrupted during re-publications.

The mobile version displays and works correctly.
