Perform a simple task in Inkscape as shown in the picture but with a different map. I will send everything later.
In today's exercise, we will focus on creating map elements, which is and will be a key activity for us as geographers. Various instructions regarding the symbols used on Polish topographic maps and new spatial materials, such as the Database of Topographic Objects, have been attached to today's exercise.
The symbols used on maps are called signatures (or cartographic signs) in cartography. Generally, there are two (three) types of signatures:
- point signatures;
- line signatures;
- (surface signs).
The prepared illustration is to be included (as described in the chapter "Preparation of the final project") in the document, on an A4 page. Therefore, when formatting, we must take into account the document margins and the resulting reduction in the width of our drawing. Thus, when setting the size of the drawing in the vector graphics program, it is not enough to use one of the predefined settings, but a custom setting is required.
The final project document is in A4 format (the width of the page in this standard is 210 mm) and the margins on the sides are 2.5 cm each (2 x 25 mm). Therefore, the width of our drawing must be exactly 160 mm (210 - 50).
