The transparent color will ultimately be filled with the color you set in the manifest, while the white color will be filled with transparent, that is, the color of the notification background (for a light theme, it is usually white, but it can be another color) - a kind of inversion. (white will become transparent and transparent will take the color you set in the manifest, or in setColor for the notification).

It seemed like everything was quite simple there - just add the necessary graphics to the final xml. Just be careful - different versions of Android interpret these icons differently (support for colored icons started with some version - and now you can add 2 fields - for colored and monochrome) - there is a chance that the black square is indeed an unsupported icon.
