The problem of narcissism is becoming increasingly relevant in the modern world with each passing year. The full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine forces almost everyone to face the aggression and terror of the occupiers daily, suffering from constant shelling both morally and physically, fearing that the Ukrainian "tomorrow" depends on the next scheme of a person who is carrying out their "historical mission." Psychoanalyst S. Akhtar notes that the constant pursuit of terrorism is directly related to the narcissistic component, particularly the belief in one's own exceptionalism and the desire to prove this to the whole world. Through violence against others, the terrorist fights their own fear, destroying the image of the victim in their own consciousness to become tolerable to themselves. The resolution of war as self-affirmation at the expense of humiliation, violence, and murder reflects the highest degree of manifestation of narcissistic trauma. Professor A. Kruglanski calls this trauma a reaction to perceived injustice, where the main motivation becomes the defense of the "facade of dignity" through the punishment of innocent people.
