Complex Lens Manufacturer Sourcing Project (China)
I successfully completed a challenging project involving the search for manufacturers in China producing camera lenses with clearly defined and highly specific technical parameters. The task required deep analysis, technical precision, and strong communication skills in Chinese.
Project Breakdown:
1) Technical Requirements Analysis
The client provided exact technical specifications that were difficult to meet.
It became clear from the start that this was a non-standard request, and finding suitable manufacturers would not be easy.
2) Supplier & Manufacturer Research
I contacted over 60 Chinese companies through Alibaba, 1688, Taobao, email, and other channels.
Most factories did not offer the required models or provided incomplete/outdated information.
After careful screening, only 10 companies confirmed they had products that matched the requirements.
3) Specification Review & Comparison Table
I collected over 15 technical datasheets, verified whether each model met the required parameters, and compiled the information into a clear and structured comparison table including:
Technical specs
Prices (in RMB and USD)
Supplier contacts
Supplier type (manufacturer, agent, or distributor)
4) Negotiations & Pricing
I requested pricing for 100 / 1,000 / 10,000 pcs
Clarified which companies could provide test samples
Identified why some manufacturers offer higher prices — in many cases, prices are deliberately increased for foreign buyers, especially when no large-volume orders are placed upfront
5) Client Recommendations
I delivered a well-structured table with the most suitable offers and suggested which companies to order test samples from. I also explained the nuances of pricing strategies and types of suppliers.
Result:
10 verified companies confirmed their products meet the client’s specifications
A comprehensive table was created to support the client’s decision-making process
Conclusion:
This project required not only supplier research skills, but also technical precision, patience, professional communication in Chinese, and the ability to work with technical documentation.
Despite the complexity, I successfully completed the task and helped the client save time, money, and avoid costly mistakes when selecting a supplier.
