Corrections of issues from the SEO audit of the Art Records website
Website Maintenance
Task
The client previously contacted us for other work on their website. The new task is to make corrections on the site according to the SEO audit conducted by third-party specialists:
- Remove broken links ending with xmlrpc.php, feed, as well as shortlinks.
- Correct the link to the canonical version of the homepage.
- Further improve the website loading speed.
- Add an H1 header to each page of the site.
- Eliminate multiple 301 redirects.
- Additional tasks
- Add a Facebook pixel.
Implementation Tools
The site runs on the WordPress CMS and a custom theme. The following tools were used to complete the work:
- Disable Feeds WP plugin;
- Remove Links and Scripts plugin;
- Head & Footer Code plugin;
- File editor;
- Third-party image compression tool.
Work Progress and Result
The work began with creating a backup of the site just in case.
To eliminate non-working links on pages ending with xmlrpc.php, new directives were added to the .htaccess file. Non-working links to feeds were removed using the Disable Feeds WP plugin. Shortlinks were redirected to the homepage by installing and configuring the Remove Links and Scripts plugin.
The link to the canonical version of the homepage was corrected in the custom WordPress page editor.
To further speed up the site, images on all pages were additionally compressed. The visual quality remained the same.
Although the header was visually present on each page of the site, code analysis showed that H1 was missing. The problem arose due to the layout of pages in the custom theme, where page titles were not assigned an H1 tag. Changes to the page template were made using the built-in WordPress theme editor. The necessary tag was added to the headers.
Multiple redirects were eliminated by adjusting links in the theme files. The built-in theme editor in WordPress was also used for this.
The client provided guest access to the Facebook Ads account. We added the site there and obtained the Facebook pixel code. The code was added to the site using the Head & Footer Code plugin.
