Development of a line of modular collapsible kennels MODU-KENNEL
1. Task:
Develop a modern, aesthetic dog house in the style of modernism/minimalism, adapted for mass production.
Key requirements from the client: the structure must be fully disassemblable (Flat-pack concept) to maximize cost reduction in logistics during delivery, have 3 adaptive sizes (S, M, L) for different dog breeds, and provide an option for quick seasonal insulation.
2. Implemented design solutions:
Modular system "Dovetail-Groove": Walls and load-bearing elements connect through a system of precise grooves and are secured with hidden eccentric fasteners (mini-fixes). This allows the end customer to assemble the dog house in 10 minutes using the instructions and minimal tools.
"Winter/Summer" technology (Insulation): A double wall contour has been designed. In the basic configuration, this is a ventilated frame. As a winter option, extruded polystyrene (EPS 20-30 mm) is placed inside the grooves, which is secured with an internal cladding made of moisture-resistant plywood (6 mm).
Flat-pack logistics: In disassembled form, all parts of the model (including the roof and base) fit into one flat box, reducing shipping costs by 3-4 times with transport companies.
Commercial upsell: The project includes a modular grid of additional options to increase the average order value for the manufacturer: attached terraces, adjustable legs for uneven surfaces, pull-out feeders, ventilation valves, and the possibility of integrating floor heating.
3. Dimensions and scaling (1 model — 3 sizes):
Size S: 850x650x650 mm (for dogs up to 10 kg)
Size M: 1050x750x750 mm (for dogs 10–30 kg)
Size L: 1250x850x850 mm (for dogs 30–50 kg)
4. Documentation to be provided (project package):
Complete 3D model of the product in .SKP (SketchUp) format with detailed layers and joints.
Detailed drawings and specifications of elements with precise fittings for CNC milling or furniture cutting.
Detailed graphic scheme (exploded view) and step-by-step assembly instructions for the end customer.
Software used: SketchUp, LayOut.
