ONE OF 6 THOUSAND: HOW A WOMAN OFFICER OF THE STATE PENITENTIARY SERVICE LIVES AND SERVES IN THE CAPITAL
Ukraine is gradually creating new traditions, affirming its own nation-building narratives and symbols. In particular, recently on February 25th, not only is the birthday of the famous poetess Lesya Ukrainka celebrated, but Ukrainian women are also honored as a certain phenomenon that has found its reflection in the cultural landscape and traditions. Now, in the time of severe trials due to war and demographic crisis, as has happened in our history, Ukrainian women are becoming defenders, saviors, and are joining professions that were previously considered purely male. For example, in the State Criminal-Executive Service, there are currently 3,964 women holding the ranks of ordinary and commanding staff, and another 2,028 of their colleagues work in the penitentiary system without having special ranks.
