- Admin creates accounts — to prohibit free registration.
- User logs in, enters the password (the one given by the admin).
- The browser generates a master key from the password (KDF).
- The browser requests the encrypted private key from the server (available to everyone).
- The browser decrypts the private key with the master key and uses it to decrypt messages.
- Sending messages: others send to username — this corresponds to the public key.
Technologies (recommended)
- Client: JS + libsodium.js (in the browser) — as it provides crypto_pwhash (Argon2id-style), crypto_box/crypto_box_seal, secretbox.
- Server: Node.js + Express + any DB (Postgres/Mongo/S3) — stores encrypted_private_key, public_key, messages (ciphertext).
- TLS — mandatory (HTTPS). CSP/SRI — mandatory
