какие догадки , если вам четко ошибка говорит 504- таймаут? каких еще уточнений это требует? вы можете уточнить у вашего хостинга и он вам скажет тоже самое. в момент обработки массива xml в какой то промежуток времени хостинг обработка превышает отведенный лимит на запросы. и все- тайм аут. в нормальных парсерах кстати , это учитывается, и после того как"хостинг оживает" импорт продолжается с того же места.
