We developed a desktop application using Electron (current version 30.3.1), but encountered critical notarization problems on macOS. Users running macOS Big Sur version 11.7.6 receive the error: "Cannot open the application because it is from an unknown developer," despite our attempts to properly notarize the application. On newer versions of macOS, this issue does not occur.
We have already tried the following approaches, but without success:
Updated Electron to version 33.0.0
Implemented manual notarization using Apple notarytool
Updated the electron/notarize package to version 2.5.0
Changed electron-builder configuration by adding appropriate entitlements
Experimented with different distribution formats (DMG and ZIP)
Updated all build-related dependencies
Attempted to clear extended attributes using xattr -c
