А чому Ви не звернулися до ілюстратора, який малював Вам зайця? Хай би він/вона перемалювали голову.

А эскизов не было у этих иллюстраций? Обычно перед тем как сдавать чистовики, иллюстратору хорошо было бы показать вам детальные эскизы с прорисованными мордочками. И уже на этой стадии было бы понятно что что-то не так.
И как сказали выше - такие правки все же проще вносить тому художнику, который занимался иллюстрациями ранее. Просто потому, что он "в теме", и вряд ли ему самому так уж неинтересно за доп. правки и доп. плату довести проект до конца.
Попробуйте отложить все эмоции и договориться. И у вас получится очень светлая и добрая книжка. Она в общем-то уже кажется светлой - но после мирного решения конфликта будет еще светлее 🙂 -
