3D modeling of the stand + light-transmitting panel (PETG)

1. General project description

It is necessary to develop a 3D model of a coffee accessory stand (analogous to the existing metal stand) for 3D printing (PETG), as well as a separate model of a translucent panel that is installed in a shelf and holds this stand.

Goal:

• replace the expensive metal stand with a printed one made of PETG;

• ensure reliable fixation, easy assembly, and repeatability;

• adapt the design for mass production (not just one instance).

2. Input data from the client

I provide:

• photographs of all elements of the existing metal stand (from different angles, disassembled);

• dimensional sizes (or the possibility for the designer to take them from the photos with clarifications);

• description of the logic of the mechanism's operation.

❗ It is not necessary to copy the design 1:1, the function + fitting dimensions are important.

3. Part 1 — 3D model of the stand (PETG)

3.1. Material and technology

• Material: PETG

• Orientation for FDM printing

• No supports or with minimal supports

• Wall thickness: recommended at least 2.5–3 mm in loaded areas

3.2. Stand design

The stand consists of the following elements:

1. Round bottom platform (base)

   • analogous to a metal "plate";

   • with a small rim;

   • hole / fitting place for the vertical post.

2. Vertical post

   • rectangular or oval cross-section;

   • groove or hole for fixation with a screw / clamping element;

   • designed for load from above.

3. Top retaining ring

   • circular ring;

   • attached to the vertical post;

   • has a fitting hole for a screw.

4. Fixing element (clamp / screw)

   • provide for a thread or fitting for a standard screw (e.g., M4 / M5);

   • preferably make it universal (able to change the type of screw).

📌 Key requirement:
The stand must be rigid, without play, and withstand regular use.

4. Part 2 — Translucent light panel (PETG / acrylic)

4.1. Purpose

• The panel is installed in a shelf;

• LED backlighting is placed at the bottom;

• the panel holds the stand.

Material:

• PETG (translucent) or PMMA (as an option);

• thickness approximately 5–8 mm (can suggest an optimum).

4.2. Fixing system for the stand to the panel

On the panel, it is necessary to model 3 fixing elements:

🔹 2 passive holders

• in the form of semi-circles (half-rings);

• the stand is inserted from the side;

• they bear the main load.

🔹 1 active fastener (with a latch)

• located on the third side;

• after inserting the stand:

  • the latch springs;

  • the stand is fixed;

  • does not slide and does not fall out.

• preferably without metal elements (or minimal).

📌 Logic:

Inserted the stand → it lay in 2 holders → the third element pressed it and fixed it.

5. Requirements for models

• File formats:

  • STEP / STL (mandatory)

• Models:

  • separate files for each part;

  • assembled assembly (preferably).

• Tolerances:

  • considering FDM printing (PETG);

  • without "perfect" fittings.

6. Expected result

In the end, I want to receive:

1. Ready 3D models that can be immediately printed.

2. A design that can be:

   • tested;

   • refined;

   • scaled for series production.

3. Without design "beauties", priority — mechanics and reliability.

7. Additionally (bonus for the freelancer's karma)

• If you suggest improvements to the design — it is welcomed.

• If you show options for the latch (2–3 concepts) — great.

• If you consider ease of printing without supports — an additional plus.
