I have experience in configuring Fortinet networking equipment, specifically FortiGate of various series. Your model 40F-3G4G has a built-in LTE/3G modem — this provides good options for backup WAN or primary channel for PLC.

What I will do:
— Initial configuration of FortiGate 40F-3G4G (interfaces, routing, NAT, DNS, DHCP);
— VPN setup for remote access to PLC (SSL VPN or IPsec Site-to-Site — depending on your topology);
— Configuration of firewall policies: minimal necessary access to PLC based on the principle of least privilege;
— Testing the tunnel and checking access to PLC from the operator/administrator side;
… — Transfer of settings and brief documentation.

Please clarify: Is the PLC connected directly to FortiGate or is there an intermediate switch? What protocol does the PLC use (Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, other)? This is needed for correct firewall rule configuration.
