If you need this script just to try and in the future you don't hope - a good option will be just to fix what's now and everything. I think in 2-3 days I’m going to do it exactly, as it will take a dop time to study the project code completely.
If you need this script in the future, and you are planning to update it somehow, I would suggest you rewrite this your self-writing code under some framework where you could then support the project without giving "all the money of the world" to the programmers who agree to the self-writing project. There are a few excellent php frameworks that will be perfect for this project.
