Хотел бы уточнить, на какую именно версию Вы хотите обновиться?
На 1.4.35 (последнюю версию в ветке 1.4) или же на версии 2 или 3?
Нужно понимать, что 1.4 и 3 - существенно отличаются друг от друга и перенос может плавно превратится в переделку.
Думаю, что поскольку сайт сделан на 1.4, то логичнее было бы оставаться в рамках этой ветки.
На всякий случай, хотел бы уточнить этот момент.
