If you do not update Joomla 2.5.6 itself, the maximum you can install is 5.6.
I can also update Joomla to the latest current version (depending on the number of additional extensions used on the site and the possibility of their updates or replacements), or at least update to Joomla 3.x in order to be able to work stably on PHP 7.x.

С PHP 5 не возможно просто перейти на PHP 7 или 8, потому максимальное что можно установить так это PHP 5.6

Joomla 2.5 не работает на PHP 7 тут если вариант только 7 то надо обновляться до 3 версии, на php 5.6 версии должно все быть нормально после переноса, может какието мелкие проблемы если стот совсем старые модули
