Проверка работы cron средствами php
Задача следующая:
На сервере работает планировщик cron.
Нужно в случае его остановки (прекращения работы cron) выполнить определенную функцию php.
Возможно ли это вообще?

напишу 2 модуля
1 запускается cron-ом каждые 5 мин и пишет время запуска в файл
2 запускается внешней программой - есть такие сервисы - и проверяет время в этом файле. Если файл создан более 5-ти минут тому назад, то это означает что cron встал и сообщение об этом отправляется либо на e-mail либо SMS на телефон
хотя чтобы cron встал это сервер надо выключить

Крон запускает функцию обновления базы данных.

в функции обновления базы добавляете пару строк, которые создают файл, например update_working, когда скрипт завершается - файл удаляется. крон ваш запускается каждую минуту и если файла нет - скрипт не работает 🙂
