На сервере в папке с сайтом лежит файл xml. Если он обновляется, то обновляется и БД товаров.

Полагаю, название проги вам ничего не скажет. Но суть, что она генерирует файл xml, который лежит на десктопе у клиента.
Точно такой же по структуре файл лежит на сервере сайта. После запуска скрипта эти файлы синхронизируются.
