Фигуры делать можно очень просто в css через свойство border. Разворачивать фигуры через transform. Ну, чтобы треугольники выглядели обрезанными, просто накладывать на них такие же треугольники другого цвета псевдоэлементами after и before.

По поводу работы: есть экраны, где фон лучше всего сделать одним изображением, но есть и экраны, где можно воспользоваться css-свойством border.
