я так понимаю, заказчик предлагает использовать pointcache как вариант механизма экспорта, но возможно то что у него есть можно обработать и другими способами.

не понятно зачем конвертировать из 3dsMax в Unity,если есть партиклы в Unity!

Потому что возможно стилистика игры не позволяет использовать партиклы. типа все супер лоу полигональный минимализм.....включая эффекты.....один из вариантов
