Task for flashing and configuring ESP32-CSI-Tool in active mode

1. Goal

Implement the collection of Channel State Information (CSI) between two ESP32 boards in active mode, where one device generates packets, and the other receives them.

2. Equipment and Conditions

• Boards: 2× ESP32 DevKitC (ESP32-WROOM-32U)

• Cables: USB-to TypeC

• COM ports:

  • Board A (TX) → COM3

  • Board B (RX) → COM4

• OS: Windows 10 or 11

• Connection: boards must be connected simultaneously to the PC

3. Development Environment

• ESP-IDF: version 4.4.7

• Python: 3.10 in a virtual environment (venv)

• Tools: CMake 3.23.1, Ninja, OpenOCD

• Python dependencies: all packages from requirements.txt ESP32-CSI-Tool, including the ready wheel for gevent

4. Executor's Tasks

1. Environment Preparation

   • Create and activate Python-venv for ESP-IDF 4.4.7

   • Install all necessary Python dependencies (windows-curses, gevent==21.12.0, others according to requirements.txt)

   • Run install.bat and export.bat for ESP-IDF

2. CSI-Tool Setup in “active”

   • Navigate to the directory ESP32-CSI-Tool-master\active

   • Check for the presence of scripts:

     • build_flash_active_COM3.bat for board A

     • build_flash_active_COM4.bat for board B

3. Build and Flash

   • In two separate cmd.exe windows, execute for each board:

     batcall D:\test\Espressif\frameworks\esp-idf-v4.4.7\export.bat
     set PATH=D:\test\Espressif\tools\cmake\3.23.1\bin;%PATH%
     cd /d D:\test\esp32-csi\ESP32-CSI-Tool-master\active
     build_flash_active_COMx.bat
     

     where COMx is respectively COM3 or COM4.

4. Verification of Operation

   • Read logs from both boards using idf.py monitor:

     • Board A: should output “Sent packet” at intervals

     • Board B: should output “CSI data: [...]” for each received packet

   • Ensure that CSI matrices are correctly collected on board B

5. Report and Documentation

   • Provide report_active.txt describing:

     • Which commands were executed and in what order

     • Monitoring results (screenshots or logs)
