Most notable among these is his perception of God, which he turns into the idea that he doesn't exist and there exists "some malicious demon of the utmost power and cunning [who] has employed all his energies in order to deceive me" (19). As he reflects, Descartes takes this antithesis and seeks to disprove it, ultimately deciding that God exists and "cannot be a deceiver, since it is manifest by the natural light that all fraud and deception depend on some defect" (41). Yet Descartes notes that God creates us, in turn creating a body and a mind, of which "the nature of man as a combination of mind and body is such that it is bound to mislead him from time to time" (69). Considering the free will and sensory perceptions that humans have been given by their creator, God, could one suggest that God can be a deceiving God by allowing us to deceive ourselves?
