So, first thing—check the shortcut properties. Right-click the VS Code shortcut, hit Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and make sure "Run as administrator" is unchecked. That should stop it from opening in admin mode all the time.
If it’s pinned to the taskbar, unpin it, find the actual Code.exe in the install folder (probably somewhere like C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Programs\Microsoft VS Code), and make a new shortcut. Use that instead.
Oh, and you can just open Command Prompt or PowerShell and type code . to launch VS Code without admin rights. Easy.
Once it’s running normally, just reinstall your packages with npm install or pip install in the terminal. No admin mode, no problems.
…
If it’s still being weird, check your system settings. Open secpol.msc and make sure "User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode" is turned on. But honestly, if you’re not sure what you’re doing here, maybe skip this part.
Last resort? Just uninstall VS Code and reinstall it. Sometimes it’s faster to start fresh than to figure out what’s broken.
-macOS
On macOS, it’s way simpler. Just open Terminal and type code . to launch VS Code. No admin mode nonsense here.
If you’re having permission issues, make sure your user account owns the folders you’re working in. You can fix that with chmod or chown if you need to.
Then, just run npm install or pip install like normal. macOS usually doesn’t block this stuff.
Still not working? Delete VS Code and reinstall it. Takes like two minutes and fixes most problems.
-Linux
Linux is pretty chill too. Open Terminal and type code . to launch VS Code. No sudo needed.
If you’re getting permission errors, check if you own the project folder. Use chown or chmod to fix it if you don’t.
Then, just run npm install or pip install like usual. Linux doesn’t usually mess with you on this.
If it’s still acting up, just uninstall and reinstall VS Code. Sometimes it’s easier than figuring out what’s wrong.
I just joined this service, and I’m really hoping for a great experience! Fingers crossed for some awesome results. Looking forward to leaving a glowing review soon!"😊
