Здравствуйте, Дмитрий. Перевод на nginx не означает автоматическое увеличения скорости. Это все нужно делать системно, начиная с проекта, который хотите разместить. И в любом случае, самое слабое место на сервере (по скорости) - диск.

Для вашей связки nginx-apache (с фронтом nginx) меняете порты на apache стандартные 80 на 8080.
В nginx прописываете бекенд апача на 8080 порту. В такой конфигурации htaccess менять не нужно. -
В 99% подобных случаев весь .htaccess состоит из одного-двух редиректов. Которые легко прописываются в конфиге nginx, и нет необходимости собирать подобного "франкенштейна".

Легко не всегда означает, что подходит данная схема. Особенно если сервер офисный, там лежит не один сайт, и люди привыкли через htaccess доступ закрывать, а тут их данных сливают.
