The task of developing the design and concept of the "Mix & Sip" packaging format is a classic challenge at the intersection of industrial design, ergonomics, and polymer technology. Here, we need not just a graphic designer, but a specialist who understands the physics of materials and the logic of thermoplastic machines.
I am engaged in industrial design and the design of physical products for production (Startfire Studio).
MY TECHNICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TASK:
The "Mix & Sip" system is always a two-chamber structure, where the dry ingredient (powder/granules) or concentrate must be isolated from the liquid base (water) until the moment of use.
1. Design of the mixing mechanism:
… We must choose one of three reliable technological paths:
• Option A (Active cap / Cap-activation): The powder is poured into a sealed cavity of the cap. When the cap is turned or the button is pressed, an internal knife pierces the membrane, and the powder falls into the bottle (principle of Gizmo or Vcap systems).
• Option B (Two-chamber tube with membrane): Two zones inside the bottle are separated by a thin partition that breaks when the body is compressed or the bottom part is turned.
• Option C (Cup-shaker): An integrated internal spiral or mesh for mechanically breaking up clumps during shaking.
2. Materials and production (Ukraine / Poland / China):
• Bottle: We are focusing on PET — cheap blow molding, ideal transparency, standard filling lines in Ukraine and Poland.
• Cap/Valve: Only Polypropylene (PP) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) using injection molding. This material is elastic, chemically neutral, and allows for a reliable thread and airtight latches.
• Membrane: Foil laminate with a special perforation for easy tearing.
