Board game rule editor
We are looking for an editor (preferably with experience) to review and edit the rules of our
board game. The task includes the following key points:
- Reviewing and editing the rules in Russian:
- Volume: about 4000 words (Russian language). The size of the finished rules (in the prototype) – A5 format, 26 pages. There are a large number of pictures included.
- The rules are written and ready, but require checking for:
- Structure and order (to ensure everything is in logical order).
- The presence of "gaps" or facts that we have not mentioned.
- Language inaccuracies and speech errors.
- Advice and suggestions for correcting identified errors are needed.
- Reviewing and editing the rules in English:
- The rules have been translated from Russian to English, but not professionally.
- A check of the translation for correctness and accuracy is required.
- Experience with English game rules and documentation, as specified in the requirements, is highly desirable.
- Experience with Indesign and Illustrator:
- Not mandatory, but welcomed.
- Our designer has created a ready model in these programs, and we would like to make minor changes without their involvement.
Candidate requirements:
- Experience with instructions, rules, explanatory notes, and creating campaigns for DnD.
- Ideally, experience related to video games or board games.
- High level of literacy and editing skills in both Russian and English.
- Knowledge of Indesign and Illustrator will be an advantage.
If you have the necessary skills and experience, we would be happy to consider your
application. Please send your resume and examples of previous work. In
the attachment, you will also find a piece of the rules that we ask you to edit and translate.

Below I have translated the text from the attachment.
When it is a player's turn to attack, they MUST indicate which enemy Mushroom Warrior they intend to attack (there are exceptions when the opponent assigns damage themselves), take the number of dice indicated on the character card (2), and then roll them on the battlefield. If the values rolled are equal to or higher than those indicated on the card (3), for each successful roll, the enemy hero receives 1 point of damage and must mark it on the character's health bar. It is important to remember that in addition to the number of dice and the values indicated on the card, there are also battlefield modifiers in the game (for example, Automatic Hits or Automatic Misses), modifiers to dice rolls obtained in the "Shop," and Influence Coefficients. The higher the player's Influence level, the greater the bonus to their opponents' dice rolls when attacking them. In the case of an Automatic Hit and an Automatic Miss, the values of the dice rolls no longer affect the success of the attack; they only indicate whether the attack was successful or unsuccessful. After assigning damage, the attacking player moves the Active Mushroom marker to the character on the right (or if it was the last mushroom in line – to the far left). If this is the only mushroom in the player's squad, the Active Mushroom marker will remain on it.
There may be situations where the Active Mushroom marker is on a character that cannot attack (not rolling dice for some reason). In such a case, the turn immediately passes to the opponent, and the marker moves further to the right according to the rules.
Important! Mushroom Warriors, unlike the player, do not have high intelligence, so if the attacking player did not announce the target of their attack and rolled the dice, they DEFAULTED to attacking themselves! It is the Game Master's duty to strictly enforce this rule and to resolve disputes, especially when the die is on the edge of the battlefield zones.

235 7 days229 USDHello!
I specialize in editing and improving texts, paying special attention to logic, structure, and readability. Working with board game rules requires not only a good command of the language but also an understanding of game mechanics so that the text is clear to players and reflects all the nuances of the game.
During the process, I carefully analyze the original text, correct grammatical and stylistic errors, improve the logic of the presentation and structure so that the rules are clear and easy to understand. I am also open to dialogue and ready to consider your comments at every stage of the work.
I would be happy to help you make your game even better!

Important! Unlike players, Mushroom Warriors do not possess high intelligence. Therefore, if the attacking player does not specify the target of their attack and continues to roll the dice, by DEFAULT they will attack themselves! It is the deputy's duty to strictly enforce these rules and resolve disputes, especially when the dice are on the border between combat zones.

43 7 days229 USDWhen it's a player's turn to attack, they MUST announce which enemy Mushroom Warrior they are targeting (exceptions occur when the opponent assigns damage themselves). The player then takes the number of dice indicated on their character card (2), and rolls them on the battlefield. If the results are equal to or higher than the number specified on the card (3), each successful roll inflicts 1 damage on the enemy character, which should be noted on the character’s health bar.
It’s important to remember that, in addition to the number of dice and values specified on the card, the game also includes battlefield modifiers (such as Auto-Hits or Auto-Misses), dice roll modifiers obtained from the "Store," and Influence Factors. The higher the player’s Influence level, the greater the bonus to the opponent’s dice rolls when attacking them. With Auto-Hits and Auto-Misses, the dice roll results no longer affect the success of the attack; they simply indicate whether the attack was successful or failed.
After assigning damage, the attacking player moves the Active Mushroom Marker to the character on the right (or if it was the last mushroom in the queue – to the far left). If this is the only mushroom in the player's squad, the Active Mushroom Marker will always remain on it.
There may be instances when the Active Mushroom Marker ends up on a character that cannot attack (due to some reason such as not rolling dice). In this case, the turn immediately passes to the opponent, and the marker will be moved further right according to the rules.
Important! Unlike players, Mushroom Warriors do not possess high intelligence. Therefore, if the attacking player does not specify their attack target and proceeds to roll the dice, they will, BY DEFAULT, attack themselves! It is the Deputy’s responsibility to strictly enforce this rule and resolve disputes, especially when the dice are on the border between battlefield zones.

I really love board games and we often play them. And we also often argue about poorly written or unclear rules.
In the fragment of text that is here, I see an inconsistency in the constant use of the word "cubes" instead of "dice" - in games, the second word is used. Also, "Mushroom-warriors" - is it a stylistic name for the characters or is it actually correct to say "Mushrooms-warriors"?
I would be happy to take on this work, but unfortunately, I can only guarantee quality in the Russian version of the rules, as a higher level of English is needed to account for all the nuances.
I have experience working in InDesign and Illustrator.
If you are interested in collaboration, write to me!
I am sure we will work great together.
