THE NETWORK OF POLYSEMY
9 USD1. Choose a polysemous word (noun) for the analysis. The word should have not
less than 15-17 senses (together with the prototypical one). Compile a list of these
senses, chosen from one or several dictionaries (terminological dictionaries may
be also considered).
2. Arrange the senses according to the BPSs employed in their onomasiological
models. Build a relational ontology of the polysemy network. Define the network
as lineal-radial or radial-lineal. Define the prevailing type(s) of relations:
metonymy, metaphor, generalization, specification.
3. Identify the thematic domains of senses.
The submitted work should include:
• A list of dictionaries (data sources).
• The word and a list of its senses.
• Arrangement of senses according to the BPSs
used in the onomasiological models.
• A relational ontology of the polysemy network. Its characteristics.
• Arrangement of senses according to the thematic domains.
