Technical assignment for the layout of a book
Book description:
A set of 5 children's books about animals. The size of the book is 10*10cm
It is necessary to prepare 5 books for printing, which are:
- 50 spreads with illustrations and poems;
- 5 title pages (cover)
- 1 box layout (photo of how everything will look in the final version is attached)
* The sizes of the cover and box layout for the books are still under development at the printing house. Therefore, only the layout of the spreads is needed at this time, accordingly, the price is only for 50 spreads.
As soon as the other layouts are ready, there will be an additional technical assignment for them
Format of the book spread (50 pcs)
• Finished page size (clean sheet): 100 × 200 mm
• Bleed: +5 mm on each side
• Final layout size for printing: 110 × 210 mm
Format of the book cover (5 pcs)
Format of the box for 5 books (1 pc)
The printing house should provide the sizes soon.
Color and printing
• Color model: CMYK
• Without embedding ICC profile (without color profile), the printing house requests not to embed the profile, but if the profile is already embedded, use Euroscale Coated v2
• Resolution: 300 dpi (dots per inch)
• Ink limitations: total ink not more than 300%
• Avoid color shifts (sharp gradients and too dark fills)
Layout in the spread
I am attaching a sample layout to base it on. Below I outline general rules and characteristics to avoid misunderstandings.
• The inner spread must be prepared considering the binding (the central part should not contain important information, text should be at least 5–7 mm away from the fold).
• All significant elements (text, illustrations, logos) should be placed within the working area of 95 × 95 mm (taking into account the bleed and technical margins).
• Background images/fills should extend "to the edge" to the bleed format (110 × 110 mm).
All necessary fonts, text, and illustrations will be provided separately.
Output files
• Format: PDF (print-ready)
• All fonts must be converted to outlines.
• Black text — only in 100% K, without C, M, Y impurities.
• Check for the absence of objects in RGB or Pantone.
Phased work
1. First, prepare layouts without text (only with illustrations and design) for submission to the printing house and checking the technical printing parameters.
2. After receiving confirmation from the printing house — continue with the layout of full layouts with text.
