Weld pool segmentation from video
90 USDThe project focus is semantic segmentation of an object (weld pool) in video, with a focus on the measurements of its dimensions, area, etc. There is an extra complexity due to that a part of the weld pool (molten metal part during welding) can be hidden in some frames by the electric arc (bright area in one of the photos), other objects; or the arc flashes, spatter and fumes may render the object edges almost undetectable for some frames in video. Therefore, the problem should be solved considering several sequential frames, and not as a problem that considers frames as separate unrelated images. It is assumed that the task will be solved using PyTorch, OpenCV, alternatively TensorFlow.
At this stage, the project is to define:
- The most suitable ML model for this problem.
- Processing between frames:
- A model that takes video as input
- Math pre-processing of frames to smooth flashes, fumes (frame averaging, etc.)
- Skip frames, perform analysis at lower frame rate than the original video fps
- Optical flow, etc.
