BOOKS - I read myself, sharing with you: What it's like to be a dog by Gregory

DOGS/BEING (or HOW IT IS — TO BE HUMAN?)
#books #reading

I finished reading "How It Is to Be a Dog" by Gregory Berns. I expected stories about tails and commands, but received a cold shower of neurobiology and ethics.

WHY is this important now? We are used to thinking that we are the pinnacle of the universe's architecture. But MRI studies of the brains of dolphins, thylacines, and dogs, etc., prove: we are not monopolists on feelings, pain, or awareness of death. We simply have a different "processor model."

HOW does it work? Berns proved: when a dog sees its owner, the same reward areas activate in the dog as in a human when they are in love. This is "logic in metal" — biological confirmation that empathy and love are not purely human prerogatives.

RISKS (My healthy pessimism): If we do not recognize our role as responsible "architects" of the planet, we risk losing our own identity and place among the intelligent.

Homo Sapiens who does not feel the pain of another living being is a defective construct. A vivid example is the Moscovites who bring ecological chaos to Ukraine. This is not just a war; it is a rejection of the human within, a transformation into "strange creatures" that have lost their minds and connection with the living World and the World of the living.

To summarize: This book is not about dogs.

The book is about our responsibility for every step, every piece of litter thrown, and every missile launched. If we want to live in Harmony, we must respect another's "personality," even if it has four legs or fins.
