    Literary editing of artistic text

    Text Editing & Proofreading
    Example of stylistic editing and shortening of a literary fragment. The work was done using my own text and demonstrates my approach to literary editing: I remove the unnecessary, condense the scene, make the presentation cleaner and more dynamic while preserving the meaning, atmosphere, and character traits.

    Task:
    Shorten the lengthy fragment, eliminate repetitions and cumbersome explanations, make the scene more lively, readable, and rhythmic.

    What was done:
    - The volume of text was reduced without losing key meaning
    - Repetitions and unnecessary explanations were removed
    - Descriptions were condensed
    - The rhythm of the scene was improved
    - The style was aligned
    - The dynamics of the narrative were enhanced

    Before editing:
    While Medina was helping to unpack and set up the gift, Naina managed to join them. And now Katie was sitting at the bar table, looking at the strange object in her hands—a thin rectangle with a smooth, almost mirror-like surface. It was a small piece of technology that everyone around used, and which, despite its simplicity, seemed to her something frighteningly incomprehensible. On the opposite side of the table, her two mentors were watching her confusion with smiles.
    — This is a phone, I already understood that, — Katie said uncertainly, pressing the side button. The screen came to life, glowing with soft light. A blue background and strange icons, resembling magical symbols, lined up before her.
    — Yes, but not just a phone, — Medina replied, brushing a rebellious green strand from her face. — This is a smartphone. Unlike the devices from a hundred years ago, with this little assistant, you can not only call but also do many other things: search for information, take photos, learn, draw...
    — Nowadays, most people are like without hands without them. They sleep with them, eat, go to...
    — Bring great ideas to life, — Naina interrupted sternly, confirming her own words as she sat nearby, fiddling with something on her own mobile.
    Katie nodded, feeling a slight tension in her chest. She had seen many times how people around constantly looked at their glowing screens, as if their entire world was contained within them. On one hand, she was tormented by curiosity about what was so fascinating, but on the other hand, she was afraid of becoming just like them. But she didn't really have a choice at that moment.
    — Let's start with the simplest, — Medina said calmly. — This is the main screen. Do you see the icons? — She pointed to several icons on Katie's screen. — This icon with a small globe is the internet browser. Essentially, right now it is your most important friend and companion. Everything that is unclear or unfamiliar can be found there.

    After editing:
    Soon Katie was sitting at the bar table, examining the black rectangle in her hands. A small piece of technology that seemed to be used by absolutely everyone appeared to her as something frighteningly incomprehensible.
    — This is a phone, I already understood that, — she said uncertainly, pressing the side button. The screen came to life.
    — Yes, but not just a phone, but a smartphone. It can do everything: search for information, teach, draw…
    Katie nodded, feeling a slight unease.
    — Let's start with the simplest, — Medina said calmly. — This is the main screen. Do you see the icons? So, let's go with the first one…

    Result:
    The fragment became more compact, cleaner, and more dynamic. The scene reads faster without losing the main meaning, the atmosphere of the heroine's introduction to a new world, and the intonation of the characters.

    Note: The example is based on my own literary text.

    Proofreading and light stylistic editing of artistic text

    Text Editing & Proofreading
    Example of proofreading a literary fragment with corrections of spelling, punctuation, and speech errors. During the work, the text was also slightly refined stylistically: awkward formulations were removed, readability was improved, and the rhythm of the narrative was aligned.

    What was done:
    — spelling errors were corrected
    — punctuation was adjusted
    — speech roughness was eliminated
    — individual phrases were slightly simplified and improved
    — the text was made cleaner and more comfortable to read

    Before:
    The morning did not start well from the very beginning. The alarm did not ring, the scrambled eggs were burnt, there was no warm water in the tap, and the bright red dawn hinted that it would most likely rain. While hastily chewing bread, Lana hurriedly jumped into an elegant cherry-colored pencil skirt and tried to call a taxi when the cat flew right in front of her feet. The girl jumped back and hissed, painfully hitting the corner of the nightstand.
    — Bayun! What the hell are you doing?! You have stitches!
    But the cat, ignoring her, leaped straight into the open kitchen window.
    — Bayun!!! — Milana shouted at the top of her lungs, almost tearing her voice, and immediately ran outside. Her bare feet burned on the cold concrete of the stairs, but she could only think about whether her fluffy monster was alive. Her chest thundered, and her lungs burned with fire as she dashed outside and ran to the other side of the house, where her windows faced. But before she could turn the corner, the completely whole and unharmed cat, with not a single bandage left on him, flew past towards the neighboring street. Without thinking about anything, she ran after him, clearly conceding to him in speed. A couple of times stumbling and scraping her knees to blood, she ran to where the cat was supposed to have dashed off, but found no one.
    — Bayun! — she shouted with a trembling hoarse voice. — Bayun!! Kitty-kitty-kitty! Bayun, where are you?!
    In the distance, where the street ended and the garages began, a crash was heard. Without hesitating for a second, she rushed there. Turning the corner, she did not immediately understand what was happening. Her new friend was growling and hissing surrounded by absolutely strange people. So thin that their bones shone, twisted, in black rags, they cautiously surrounded him.

Turning the corner at full speed, she did not immediately understand what was happening. Her new friend was growling and hissing surrounded by strange people with knives and sticks in their hands. So thin that their bones shone, twisted, in black rags, they cautiously surrounded him.

    Result:
    The fragment became more literate, cleaner, and more dynamic, while the overall meaning, mood of the scene, and author's presentation were preserved.

    Neural network covers for books

    AI Art
    Examples of book covers created using neural networks and subsequent manual refinement. AI tools were used to generate the main visual, after which the images were manually refined: composition, color scheme, typography, title design, and overall presentation of the cover were selected.

    What was done:
    — development of the visual idea
    — generation of the main image in neural networks
    — selection and refinement of options
    — color correction and final processing
    — font selection
    — design of the cover as a cohesive visual solution

    Development of a series of covers for a book trilogy

    Print Design
    From scratch, I created three covers for a book trilogy in a unified visual style. All illustrations were done by hand. As part of the work, the overall concept of the series was developed, the images of the heroines, color solutions for each volume, the design of the front and back sides of the covers, the spine, as well as the layout of the title, author's name, and annotations.

    What was done:
    development of the overall concept of the trilogy;
    creation of three covers in a unified style;
    hand-drawn illustrations of characters;
    design of the front side, spine, and back side;
    selection of a color palette for each volume;
    visual unification of the series while maintaining the individuality of each book.

    Result:
    A cohesive series of covers was created, in which all three books are visually connected to each other, but differ in mood and color.

    Price:
    One cover (front side only) — 2500–4000 UAH.*
    Full spread (front and back side + spine) — 3500–5000 UAH.*
    Series of 3 books in one style — 8000–12000 UAH for the entire series.*

    *depending on the complexity and number of revisions.
