Вижу, что планируете через Amazon SES. Это хорошее решение. Хочу предупредить, чтобы вы уже сейчас его зарегистрировали и отправили на модерацию аккаунт SES.
Объясню детали. Сразу после создания аккаунт находится в режиме «песочница», когда вы можете с ним работать, но отправлять можете только на ограниченный набор адресов. Для перехода в полноценный режим надо рассказать Амазону кто вы, для чего рассылка, как люди подписываются и отписываются. И там они уже решают давать или не давать вам доступ к SES. Не всем дают. -

Как альтернативы посмотрите на mailgun или sendgrid, хорошие сервисы. На российские сервисы вообще не рекомендую - с них письма в спам летят только в путь.

Мы начали делать свой проект на основе amazon ses - но закончить его за пару недель нереально. У нас основные emails идут через sendgrid, но наши девы заняты другими задачами - поэтому и пришлось прибегать к скрипту и рисковать.

Если я правильно понимаю, то amazon ses это же просто smtp сервер для рассылки электронной почты. И по факту перейти с него на любой другой smtp сервер это поменять несколько настроек в коде. Или вы что-то другое имеете ввиду?

к сожалению нет. эти сервисы можно рассматривать как "transport" но при этом они делают еще кучу задач. например недавно рассылка начала валидироваться законами в EU и т.д.
