1. How Shopify accepts payments
Shopify does not accept money directly — you connect a payment gateway through which customers pay, and the money goes to your account.

There are two options:

Shopify Payments (not available in all countries — for example, not available in Ukraine)

Third-party payment systems, such as:

Stripe (often used through a foreign company)

PayPal

Fondy, LiqPay, Wayforpay (if you work for the Ukrainian audience)

2. Where the money goes
Money from sales goes to the account of the payment system (for example, Stripe or PayPal), and from there — to your bank account.

❗️If you use Stripe — you need a settlement account in the country where it officially operates (for example, Estonia, Lithuania, USA, etc.). This is usually done by opening a legal entity abroad.

3. What to do if there are large turnovers
If you seriously plan to work, especially in the international market — legal registration should be done immediately or at least after the first 1000–5000 USD per month. Otherwise, there may be issues with payment blocking.

💡What dropshippers usually do:

Register an LLC in the USA (through services like Firstbase, Stripe Atlas, Doola, etc.)

Or open a sole proprietorship / LLC in Ukraine and connect Fondy, LiqPay, PayPal Business (depending on the market)

4. Payments and taxes
Shopify itself does not withhold anything

You pay a fee to the gateway (for example, Stripe — about 2.9% + $0.3 per transaction)

Shopify charges a fee for using a third-party payment gateway (usually 2%, if not Shopify Payments)

All taxes are your responsibility (company registration, accounting, reporting — according to your registration location)

5. What to do at the start
Define your market (where you are selling)

Choose a payment system you can work with (and that is available in the required country)

Think about registering a legal entity (if you plan to do it seriously)
