I can prepare an electronic layout for printing one story with one illustration before the text and create 3 different design options for agreeing on the overall style of the future book.
I understand the task: right now, we need to not typeset the entire book at once, but first find a visual format — select fonts, page composition, design the beginning of the story, placement of the illustration, margins, style of headings, and the overall atmosphere. After approving one of the options, we can format other stories in the same style.
Within the first stage, I can do:
3 design options for one story;
a selection of different font solutions;
the design of the first page with an illustration;
typesetting the text in a neat book format;
preparation of a PDF for review/approval;
a final layout for printing after approval.
To start, I need: the text of one story in Word, an illustration in good quality, the desired book format, a style reference, and information about the target audience for the book.
Since you mentioned that the budget is limited, I suggest starting with a test stage of one story and three design options. After agreeing on the style, we can separately calculate the cost of typesetting the entire book.
