I have experience in developing patterns for embroidery, including for traditional embroidered shirts.
I work professionally in vector format using Adobe Illustrator.
For quality execution of the work, a clear technical specification is needed:
1) clear dimensions of the cuffs, collar, placket, and sleeve - templates, or their fragment - the part where the pattern should be placed.
2) Your verbal wishes regarding the pattern, which may include the technique of execution - such as mosaic grid, lowering, cutwork, or others, or geometric or floral patterns, specific elements, desired colors.
3) If you have a specific model (cut), then a quality photo of the product to create a visualization on a mockup, or indicate that you provide this mockup.
I do not work with AI. I also do not work in a special program for computer embroidery.
I create sketches with a pencil for agreement and possible revisions, after which I make the approved options in vector format.
