I have experience designing frame houses for the Canadian market. I work in Revit, and regarding the quality of your "model," I believe it doesn't matter to you which software is used.

Regarding the foundation for the frame, I still recommend using a strip foundation, going down to the level of the existing building to minimize the movement of your new foundation. Form a separate "cage" for the room, and approach the existing building through an expansion joint.
